Perseverance Through Progression

We're a month into 2016, but Happy New Year to all of youse anyway! May this year bring you much success, triumph, peace of mind and unforgettable moments. Shoutout to the people using the start of the new year as a reset to prioritize their lives, and put things into motion while thinking/talking it into existence. Keep your eyes ahead and focus on the big picture. A little hard work & faith can go a long way. Never mind those who carry the seeds of doubt with them wherever they go. Their truth isn't your reality.
I got some words for the people who feel it's their duty to make comments on others who make commitments around this time to better themselves. So what you don't need the New Year to push the reset button. Everybody ain't you & trust me, NOBODY WANTS TO BE YOU! Why would I want to be a negative, vibe killing, energy leeching asshole who thinks people don't like them because they're "blunt & honest". No, that's not it, buddy. No one likes you because you're a passive aggressive malcontent with insecurity issues who projects it onto others and is scared of accountability. New Year, same ol' shit, right? YOU on that same ol' shit, yet you posting memes telling people to do better. How do you look? How are you going to disrespect people who use the New Year as an opportunity to hold themselves accountable for improving their lives? Ever tried practicing what you preach? Exercising empathy? Putting yourself in the shoes of others? Do you know what their life is like? Do you know what demons they had to fight? Can you comprehend what they had to go thru in order to just be able to stand in this present moment? For all we know, they need a fresh start. Allow them that chance & focus on your life. Mind your affairs. Run your own damm race. If you did that, then maybe, just maybe, you wouldn't have to validate yourself on the missteps and hard times of others. Tell me you know what it's like to look at yourself in the mirror without breaking down. I'll wait....
If you not hearing any motivating words in your life right now, let me be the one to say it: You got this. You got what it takes to make whatever you desire happen. Not on no optimistic, everything-is-gonna-work-out-in-the-end Disney movie tip. This is more like a, "I see your potential and I have the belief that you can tap into it" movement. Believe it or not, someone is out there cheering you on. YOU'RE rooting for you, deep down within. Intuition never lies. Be that dopeness you manifesting. If anyone attempts to assassinate, clap back with everything you can muster (Pick and choose your battles wisely). You are your biggest advocate and protecting yourself is the most important investment you can make. Measure your progression on a scale that’s designed by you. Your development won’t look like the next person’s, since we all lead different lives with complexities that are unique to each of us. We put society’s definition on what it is to exist on this realm ahead of finding & living the definition that makes us the distinctive individuals we are. Because of this, we overlook the little victories we earn without even realizing it. We so focused on the big picture, we neglect the minuscule results that make the big picture what it is: a portrait contained by many strokes of the paintbrush on our canvas that coexist with each other in one space. Within this space we occupy together, carve out your own meaningful existence and have fun while doing it!

You haven’t made any progress on your resolutions yet? Don’t even trip. The best part about waking up every day is it’s a new chance to start fresh, as well as another opportunity to chase after our goals. Reevaluate, reorganize & refuel whenever YOU feel it’s necessary. Whether it’s in the beginning, middle, or end of the year, that choice is left up to you. It’s your marathon. You know your strengths & weaknesses. You know your mind/body and what it reacts to. Listen to yourself, own your shit, and make adjustments. Most importantly, enjoy the journey! Everything that happens to us has a purpose. We can either take stride in the lesson or beef with time we can't get back. When we reach our destination, we'll look back on the trip and realize what we been through molded us into the people we've become. And hopefully, it's for the better.

What Do You Want Your Legacy To Be?

My favorite Dr. King speech is The Drum Major Instinct . Out of all his greatest speeches, this one jumps at me and speaks to me in such a powerful way. It aligns in accordance with my path as well as the characteristics I developed over the years to become the man I am today. This sermon being his last one before he got assassinated, he speaks like a man who’s actively dealt with his impending demise and understands the significance of living one’s life with a sense of purpose. The transcript reads like a eulogy fit for a man who gave his life serving people. When you hear the audio , you can’t help but be moved by the words. It’s a thoughtful reminder of being mindful of the impact we have on the lives around us and the objectives we prioritize in our individual lives. “…And there is deep down within all of us an instinct. It's a kind of drum major instinct—a desire to be out front, a desire to lead the parade, a desire to be first. And it is something that run...

Lookin' Ass Ni**as & The Bitter Ni**as Who Took Offense

You know, it's easy to be a part of a mob throwing stones at an individual who's behavior/actions/opinions you don't agree with. It really doesn't take much to pick up a rock & throw it. Only thing you really gotta put effort & concentration into is hitting your target. Now, when it comes to thinking about   WHY   you're so opposed to what's being said before picking up the rock, that's a different story. Especially when the target has had more than their fair share of critics before ( this writer included ). Mob mentality comes into the picture & takes over without a second thought. Nicki Minaj. My only problem with her song "Lookin' Ass Nigga" is the historical appropriation of one of Black Culture's most revered figures. I really have a problem with any rapper who name-drop people from history without knowing who they are & what they contributed. Where's the context? Don't use it for entertainment ...

Barbancourt & Bullet Points

I have a docket full of assignments to complete as I’m typing this. Thanks to a number of distractions, I’m here right now, with specific words that have absolutely nothing to do with my GPA. Due to the numerous folks with uninformed opinions & severe lack of context as they’re speaking on the various hot topics of the day, I felt the need to address some of the commentary I’m seeing on almost a daily basis. Now, let it be known that I don't think my opinion takes precedence over anyone else's, nor do I feel that I’m right about everything I say. However, I will say that I’m smart enough to know when a particular topic or subject is not my cup of tea, so shutting the fuck up when it’s being discussed is no problem at all. That being said, if I speak on it, I do my absolute best to ensure that nuance and context are part of the narrative. I speak with passion & conviction because that’s the type of person I am. Also, I know what I speak of when I open my mouth, and I wi...
